Mold Illness & CIRS Treatment in Seattle

If you got sick in a water-damaged building, your symptoms are real - and treatable.

If you're living with mold illness or CIRS, you know how hard it is to be believed. The crushing fatigue, the brain fog, the headaches, the strange mix of symptoms that touch every system at once - and the providers who tell you mold exposure is harmless, or that your labs look fine.

Maybe your health fell apart after a move, a leak, or a musty office and no one connected the two. Maybe you already know mold is the culprit and just need someone who knows what to do about it.

We see mold and biotoxin illness for what it is: a real, physical, multi-system condition that conventional testing routinely overlooks.

At Neuroveda Health, biotoxin illness is part of our core complex-chronic-disease work, not a diagnosis we wave off. We take the time, use the right testing, and treat the whole picture - the toxin burden, the inflammation, and everything it's thrown off balance.

Seattle clinic with telehealth options for Washington State residents. We collaborate with your existing primary care, allergy, or environmental medicine team.

What is mold illness and CIRS?

Mold illness is a chronic inflammatory condition triggered by exposure to toxins from mold and other organisms that grow in water-damaged buildings. In susceptible people - often those whose genetics make it hard to clear these toxins - the immune system stays switched on long after the exposure, producing a self-sustaining inflammatory state known as CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome).

That ongoing inflammation is why mold illness looks different in everyone and touches so many systems at once - energy, brain, sinuses, gut, and nervous system. Each symptom on its own gets sent to a different specialist, and because standard labs aren't built to detect it, the underlying driver gets missed. That's the part we do differently.

Common signs of mold illness and CIRS

  • Persistent fatigue and post-exertional crashes that rest doesn't resolve

  • Brain fog, memory and word-finding trouble, difficulty concentrating, and headaches

  • Chronic sinus congestion, cough, air hunger, or recurring sinus infections

  • Sensitivity to foods, chemicals, fragrances, or medications (often overlapping with MCAS)

  • Muscle aches, joint pain, cramps, and unusual nerve sensations (tingling, "ice-pick" pains, static shocks)

  • Lightheadedness, racing heart, and blood pressure swings (often overlapping with POTS)

  • Mood changes, anxiety, irritability, and a nervous system that feels stuck on high alert

  • Increased thirst, frequent urination, night sweats, and temperature dysregulation

  • Symptoms that clearly worsen in certain buildings, or that began after a leak, flood, or move

If several of these describe your daily life - especially if they track with a specific building or started after a water-damaged environment - you're in the right place.

Metallic Fluid Waves

Mold illness rarely travels alone. We treat the whole cluster.

Biotoxin illness destabilizes the immune and nervous systems, and it keeps company with several conditions we treat every day. Untangling how they fit together is exactly the kind of complexity Neuroveda Health was built for.

MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome) - time in a water-damaged building is one of the most under-recognized drivers of chronic mast cell activation. Treating mold without addressing the mast cell picture leaves results on the table.

Chronic Lyme and tick-borne illness - infection and biotoxin burden create overlapping inflammatory pictures, and many patients carry both. Sorting out how much is mold and how much is tick-borne is central to getting better.

ME/CFS and post-viral illness - profound fatigue and post-exertional malaise often sit at the intersection of biotoxin burden, immune dysregulation, and mitochondrial dysfunction.

POTS and dysautonomia - biotoxin-driven inflammation can dysregulate the autonomic nervous system, producing the racing heart and lightheadedness of POTS. We offer complete in-office autonomic nervous system testing.

Mitochondrial dysfunction - mycotoxins impair cellular energy production, which helps explain why the fatigue is so deep and why some people plateau mid-recovery.

Most clinics hand each of these to a different specialist. We build one coordinated plan that treats the cluster as what it is: one connected story.

How we diagnose mold illness and CIRS

There is no single yes-or-no test for mold illness, which is exactly why so many patients go years without answers. Standard allergy testing looks for an allergic reaction to mold spores - a different thing entirely from the toxic and inflammatory injury of CIRS - so it routinely comes back "normal" while you keep getting sicker.

Diagnosis takes a clinician who knows biotoxin illness well: someone who reads the pattern, connects it to the exposure, and orders the testing that actually reflects what's happening.

Our evaluation starts the way all care at Neuroveda starts: with a real conversation about your whole history - your buildings, your timeline, your symptoms, and what you've already tried. Then we layer in testing strategically.

  • Pattern-based clinical evaluation - mapping your symptoms and exposure history against the clinical picture of biotoxin illness, because the connection to a water-damaged environment is often the most important clue

  • Urine mycotoxin testing - evaluating your body's toxic mold burden through specialty panels such as the RealTime Laboratories mycotoxin panel (home collection)

  • MARCONS nasal evaluation - a nasal swab for biofilm-forming and antibiotic-resistant organisms that keep the inflammatory cycle going, relevant in chronic sinusitis and biotoxin illness

  • Environmental toxin and total-burden testing - broader panels for mycotoxins and other environmental inputs, plus detoxification-capacity genomics when clearance is a relevant factor, drawn from our full specialty testing menu

  • Immune, inflammatory, and mitochondrial workup - because CIRS is fundamentally an inflammatory state, we assess how your immune system, inflammation, and cellular energy are responding

  • Autonomic nervous system (ANS) testing - when POTS or dysautonomia is part of the picture

You don't need to arrive with a diagnosis or a mold report in hand. Figuring out what's driving your illness is our job - together.

Integrative treatment for mold illness and CIRS

Mold illness is treatable - not with a single pill, but with a layered, personalized plan that removes what's driving the inflammation, helps your body clear the toxin burden, and rebuilds the systems the exposure wore down.

Our approach blends evidence-based modern medicine with Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine tradition, and because every body clears toxins differently, every plan is built for yours.

Remove:
stopping the exposure

  • Environmental guidance - the single most important step is getting you out of ongoing exposure; we help you understand what that means and how to prioritize it, because no treatment works while the source is still feeding the fire

  • Sinus and MARCONS treatment - addressing nasal colonization that keeps the inflammatory cycle running when testing points to it

Clear:
lowering the toxin burden

  • Binder and drainage support - provider-directed strategies to help your body bind and eliminate mycotoxins, sequenced carefully so treatment doesn't overwhelm a sensitive system

  • Detoxification and drainage pathways - supporting the liver, gut, and lymphatic clearance routes the body uses to process toxins, drawing on Ayurvedic detox and cleansing therapies

  • Antifungal strategies - conventional and botanical approaches when the clinical picture calls for them

Restore:
rebuilding energy and resilience

  • Mitochondrial and nutrient support - targeted repletion and IV therapy, including antioxidant and glutathione support, to rebuild the cellular energy mycotoxins deplete

  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) - increasing tissue oxygenation to support recovery in select patients

  • Gut restoration - repairing the gut and microbiome, which both steadies the immune system and supports toxin elimination

  • Mast cell support - stabilizing overactive mast cells when MCAS is part of your picture, because reactive patients need care that accounts for their reactivity

Regulate:
calming a nervous system stuck on high alert

Chronic inflammation keeps the nervous system locked in a threat state, and that state amplifies sensitivity, insomnia, and reactivity. Breaking the loop is central to lasting recovery.

  • Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) - a non-invasive auditory intervention that improves vagal tone, emotional regulation, and resilience

  • Acupuncture & Chinese herbal medicine for system-wide balance, sleep, and stress physiology

  • Fascial Counterstrain - a gentle, non-forceful manual therapy well suited to sensitive bodies, supporting circulation and lymphatic drainage

  • Nervous system and limbic support - vagal and breath-based practices to downshift the threat response and help the whole plan work

Frequently asked questions about mold illness and CIRS

What is CIRS, and how is it different from a mold allergy?

CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) is a sustained, body-wide inflammatory state triggered by biotoxins from water-damaged buildings in people who can't easily clear them. A mold allergy is an immune reaction to mold spores - sneezing, congestion, and the like - that standard allergy testing can identify. CIRS is a different mechanism entirely: it's an inflammatory and toxic injury, not a classic allergy, which is why allergy panels often look "normal" while you keep getting sicker.

How is mold illness diagnosed?

Mold illness is diagnosed clinically, by a provider who connects your multi-system symptoms to a history of water-damaged-building exposure, then supports that assessment with the right testing. We use urine mycotoxin panels to evaluate your body's toxin burden, MARCONS nasal evaluation for sinus colonization, and immune, inflammatory, and mitochondrial workup to see how your system is responding - because standard labs aren't built to detect this.

Can mold illness be treated, or do I just have to avoid mold?

It's treatable, and avoidance alone usually isn't enough. Getting out of ongoing exposure is the essential first step, but most patients also need help clearing the toxin burden (binder and drainage support), calming the inflammation, treating sinus colonization if present, and rebuilding the energy, gut, and nervous system the illness wore down. We build all of that into one coordinated plan.

Do mold illness, MCAS, and POTS go together?

Often, yes. Time in a water-damaged building is one of the most under-recognized drivers of mast cell activation (MCAS), and biotoxin-driven inflammation can dysregulate the autonomic nervous system, producing POTS. We evaluate for all of it - including complete in-office autonomic testing - and treat the cluster together rather than sending each piece to a different specialist.

What testing do you use for mold and biotoxin illness?

We use urine mycotoxin panels (such as RealTime Laboratories) to measure toxic mold burden, a MARCONS nasal swab to check for biofilm-forming and antibiotic-resistant sinus organisms, and broader environmental toxin and total-burden panels when appropriate. We can also look at detoxification-capacity genomics when your ability to clear toxins is a relevant factor, and assess the immune, autonomic, and mitochondrial systems the exposure affects.

Can CIRS be cured?

Many patients improve dramatically and get their lives back, though recovery from a complex inflammatory illness is a process rather than a single cure. Removing exposure, lowering the toxin burden, calming the inflammation and any mast cell or autonomic involvement, and rebuilding resilience can restore energy, clarity, and stability that felt lost for good. What that looks like is different for every person, and we're honest with you about it along the way.

Do I need a diagnosis before booking?

No. Many of our patients come to us suspecting mold illness without a formal diagnosis, or with symptoms nobody has explained. Evaluation is part of what we do. If you already have mycotoxin results or a CIRS diagnosis, we'll build on it rather than starting over, and we're glad to work alongside your existing providers.

Do you offer telehealth for mold illness care?

Yes. We're licensed to treat patients located in Washington State, with telehealth available pending provider availability. In-office services like autonomic testing, IV therapy, and in-clinic blood draws take place at our Seattle clinic, and many patients combine periodic in-person visits with telehealth follow-up.

Will insurance cover my care?

Neuroveda is a direct-pay clinic; we provide Superbills and billing codes so you can seek reimbursement from your insurer. Some conventional lab work may be covered, while specialty mycotoxin and MARCONS testing is generally cash-pay. We keep pricing transparent so you can plan ahead; provider rates are listed on each provider's page.
